Broomfield Awarded “High-Flyer” Bird City Status
The Bird City Network, a partnership between the American Bird Conservancy, Environment for the Americas (EFTA) and The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has designated Broomfield a “High Flyer Status” community. Polco's Best in Governance 2025 Community Impact - National Champion - Economy
In October, the City and County of Broomfield was named the 2025 National Champion for the Polco Best in Governance Award - Economy at the ICMA (International City/County Management Association) Annual Conference. As a National Champion, CCOB isn’t just performing well, but is transforming how the government works. By blending resident voice, trusted data and actionable insight, CCOB is charting a new course toward governance that is smarter, more connected and more responsive to community needs.

Polco’s Best in Governance: Economy for 2025
The Best in Governance: Economy Top Performer Award highlights communities that are effectively fostering strong, inclusive and resilient economies. These economies are seen as the result of strategic choices made by local leadership, particularly investments in areas such as affordability, business climate, fairness, and workforce readiness. The City and County of Broomfield was the only Colorado community to receive the award.
This recognition reflects years of focused work across multiple teams at CCOB, including Planning, Development, Housing, Economics, Finance, CIP and Workforce, among others. Visit the Polco Best in Governance web page for more information.
Broadband Ready Certified Community:
The City and County of Broomfield received the Colorado Broadband Office Broadband Ready Community certification. This certification shows that CCOB has taken steps to encourage broadband infrastructure deployment to connect residents. Learn more at the Broadband Ready Community Program web page.
Broomfield Wins Best-Tasting Water in the Rocky Mountain Region
Broomfield's Water Utilities staff won the "best-tasting water" title at the 17th Annual Rocky Mountain Water Taste Test Competition, hosted by the Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association. The competition, held Tuesday, Aug. 26, featured water utilities from Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado. A panel of judges evaluated entries on taste, appearance, smell and overall impression.
This achievement is a testament to the Water Treatment Facility staff's dedication to providing top-quality water. As the regional winner, Broomfield earned an invitation to compete for the national "best-tasting water" title at the American Water Works Association's convention in Washington, D.C.
Colorado Department of Human Services Distinguished Performance Award
The Broomfield Human Services Team received the Colorado Department of Human Services Distinguished Performance Award for the fifth year in a row! The award recognizes counties that meet goals for timeliness, safety and accuracy in their work. Counties that meet their goals are more likely to meet the needs of individuals and families in their community. The counties’ exceptional performance will help more Coloradans feed their families, heat their homes, care for their loved ones and improve their safety, independence and wellbeing. Connecting people with essential services empowers them to pursue opportunities to develop valuable skills, get good jobs and build a more secure future for themselves and their families.
2025 American Public Works Association Colorado Chapter Award for Parks and Trails
The Bay Aquatic Park Renovation revitalized a key community asset by replacing pools, slides and mechanical systems, meeting modern codes and enhancing accessibility. This project innovatively transformed a new mechanical building into a reservable party deck, maximizing public space and utility. Completed on time and on budget through extensive inter-departmental and community cooperation, it serves as a model for modernizing aging recreational infrastructure. Josephine H. Miles Honorary Award

Charging Smart Silver designation
Broomfield is the first to earn the national Charging Smart Silver designation in Colorado, recognizing its leadership in EV readiness and innovation. This award highlights Broomfield's commitment to policies supporting EV adoption and expanding local charging infrastructure. Efforts include streamlined permitting, a municipal fleet analysis and exploration of electrification opportunities, making EV adoption more accessible and affordable, and supporting sustainability goals. Charging Smart is led by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. Learn more at ChargingSmart.org.
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association
This certificate recognizes state and local government agencies that exceed the requirements of the minimum reporting and accounting principles. It is the highest form of recognition available to state and local government agencies in accounting and financial reporting. Receiving the highest level of recognition for financial reporting once is significant, but to receive it annually for more than three decades running signifies an above-and-beyond commitment to excellent fiscal service to the City and County of Broomfield.
Heart of Broomfield Awards
The Heart of Broomfield Awards shine a light on those who uplift our community through compassion, service, and incredible dedication. For more than 25 years, Dawn Rachjaibun has served as the Aquatics Program Manager for the City and County of Broomfield—transforming facilities, mentoring thousands and championing safety and wellness across generations.

Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The City and County of Broomfield’s Finance Department was again awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The department has received award annually for more than three decades running and is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. That is a testament to the dedication and hard work to produce a budget that meets exceptional standards and ensures that our finance planning supports best practices, ensuring transparency and accountability across the organization.

Voice of the People (VOP) Award for Excellence in Government Performance for Utilities
The City and County of Broomfield was named a winner for the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) 2024 Voice of the People (VOP) Award for Excellence in Government Performance for Utilities. The VOP Awards are the only nationally recognized honors given to local governments based on resident input, government performance and community data in decision-making.
EDIE award for ‘Large Community of the Year
The City and County of Broomfield was awarded the EDIE award for ‘Large Community of the Year’ by the Economic Development Council of Colorado during its annual conference in October.
