The Broomfield Police Department is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the community by protecting life and property and providing services to prevent crime and resolve problems. To fulfill this commitment, the Broomfield Police Department continually evaluates best practices and trends in policing to better serve our community.
In 2015, after an extensive review, the Broomfield Police Department created an instructor group to implement procedural justice training for every police department employee. All officers are currently trained on procedural justice based on the COPS model. These concepts are reinforced through the field training programs, skills training, and daily interactions with each other and the community.
The police department continues to research and evaluate de-escalation and implicit bias training and work to continually increase officers’ knowledge and skills in these areas. Currently, our skills instructors and trainers are attending a two-day de-escalation training to use this model to incorporate into classroom instruction and scenario-based training. In addition, a group of employees attended a week-long instructor training for de-escalation and verbal conflict to continue ongoing professional development for police employees. Broomfield employs the L.E.E.D. model for communication both inside the department and in the community.
