Sewer Rates

Sewer Rates, effective Feb. 01, 2026

Charges for sewer service are calculated based on one of the following methods (whichever quantity is greater):

2026
Average Winter Consumption (AWC)**$6.26 x AWC
Equivalent Residential Unit (ERU)$25.04 x ERU

  • All new accounts are charged a flat, monthly rate of $37.56 per ERU (minimum ERU of 1) until a winter average is established for that account.
  • The minimum charge for any account is $25.04 per dwelling unit.

Sewer charges are updated annually and become fixed until the winter averages are re-evaluated at the end of March. The new rate will appear on your utility statement beginning in April.

**Please be advised that our billing system uses standard rounding methods when calculating winter averages, so your actual sewer charges may vary slightly. For more detailed information on your specific account(s), please contact the Utility Billing office at 303-438-6319 or utbilling@broomfield.org.

Broomfield's Utility Enterprise Funds Update

Broomfield staff is currently recommending increased rates for the enterprise funds (water, sewer and stormwater) to cover the costs of providing respective services to customers. Visit the Recommendations Proposed page within the Broomfield's Utility Enterprise Funds website to see an overview of the proposed increases related to each fund and a proposal for adding a dedicated funding mechanism for a stormwater enterprise fund.

Average Winter Consumption (AWC)

Water usage is analyzed from four monthly bills between November 1 and March 31 (typically involving November-February readings for Cycle 1, or December-March readings for Cycles 2-4). We calculate the average usage across those four months, which then becomes your AWC.

Equivalent Residential Unit (ERU)

This value is based on a comparison to the demand of a single-family residence (approximately 116,800 gallons of sewage per year).

  • The standard ERU is 1, and then varies according to the predicted usage once development is complete.
  • The ERU is determined at the time that the sewer license is purchased, and that value permanently remains with the property address.
    • ERUs are only reassessed in the event that there would be an increase.
  • Multi-unit, residential buildings are usually assigned 1 ERU for each dwelling unit.

Sewer License Base Charge

Once the sewer license has been purchased, minimum charges for sewer service are billed monthly until permanent service is established.

  • These service charges are comparable to the current Equivalent Residential Unit rate described above (minimum ERU of 1).
  • For questions on water license fees, please visit the Building Division's Fees web page.
