Prospective Owners & Operators

Come join Broomfield’s thriving community; Broomfield and area families and residents regularly demonstrate a commitment and loyalty to supporting local businesses and enjoy discovering fun and interesting shops, services and dining.  The community supports businesses who are committed to sustainable business practices (such as sustainable wages, green practices (reuse, recycle, reuse), and supporting local organizations and groups).  Our core values are to create an inclusive, thriving and sustaining community - where we all prosper and succeed together.

The City and County of Broomfield does not require a business license to operate but registering a business with the State of Colorado is required of all businesses.

Every new business is unique, obtaining the correct licenses early on will help open operations faster and keep timelines on track.

Businesses may need to obtain some of these licenses or approvals before opening up:

  • a sales tax license
  • a food license from the Department of Public Health and Environment
  • Businesses should file a pre-application form with the Planning Division to ensure their intended use is in compliance with Broomfield's land use and zoning laws
  • or apply for building permits and obtain a certificate of occupancy from the Building Division within Community Development. Business owners can quickly find and apply for these resources online (links to these below) to ensure efficiency with their timelines.

Prospective Businesses should reach out to economicvitality@broomfield.org if they have questions about opening up a new business.
