Colorado 7 (CO 7)

CO 7 (formerly SH 7) is a key east-west roadway for Broomfield. It is also a key regional connection between Brighton and Boulder.  Widespread land use development is taking place along the eastern half of the corridor, including in Broomfield. Development results in increased traffic volumes, congestion, and the need for multimodal transportation improvements.

Regional planning efforts began in 2012 to address current and future multimodal travel needs on the corridor. Bus Rapid Transit, a connected multiuse path, safety improvements, and capacity expansion are important elements of the planning effort.

As of 2020, preliminary engineering and environmental planning is underway for most of the corridor.  Sections with the highest need for near-term improvements are being designed and constructed.  Funding is also secured to start a pilot transit service on the corridor.

CDOT will construct an interim mobility hub station at CO7 / I-25 with transit stops, park-n-ride, a new pedestrian bridge, and secure bike lockers. The new station is estimated to be open for service in 2026 and allows for I-25 Bustang North Line service to stop at this interchange. Communities on the corridor were successful in securing grant funds to begin initial transit operations between Brighton and Boulder in 2026, the service will allow for transfers to the I-25 Bustang service at the interim mobility hub station.
