Broomfield Out Loud Mural Project
The City and County of Broomfield’s Arts and History division is concluding the Broomfield Out Loud program with a special mural by award-winning Native American (Arapaho) artist Brent Learned. The mural, installed in Spring 2025 at 120th and Highway 287 near the current mental health focused murals, will honor the Cheyenne and Arapaho people, who were part of the Broomfield Out Loud program. The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes also share a sister city relationship with the City and County of Broomfield, deepening this cultural connection.
In April 2025, Brent Learned visited Broomfield to lead Artist in Residency workshops for students and the public. Through these sessions, he will share his artistic process and approach while engaging students in the history and cultural significance of the Cheyenne and Arapaho people in Colorado. Students will also have the opportunity to experiment with art techniques inspired by his work.
Brent Learned is a muralist and painter and an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. He will share about his process and artistic approach for his forthcoming mural installation at 120th and 287. Sharing how his art is informed by the historical context of the Cheyenne and Arapaho people in Colorado, Learned’s talk will give insight into the impact and resilience of the Cheyenne and Arapaho and how art can elevate and expand our connection to culture and history.
Brent Learned Artist Statement: "I’m an artist who draws, paints and sculpts the Native American Indian in a contemporary style. I have always appreciated the heritage and culture of the American Plains Indian. I try to create artwork to capture the essence, accuracy, and historic authenticity of the American Plains Indian way of life. Although I have many different styles, I’m typically known for the use of bold vibrant colors in my depictions of the American Plains Indian."
