Development Programs

Recidivism is a tendency to relapse into a previous condition or mode of behavior, especially a relapse into criminal behavior. Incarcerated individuals at the Broomfield Detention Center are breaking the cycle of crime by learning new skills to modify their behavior and become better neighbors through collaborative programming.

The detention center partners with other Broomfield departments including the library to administer classes and programs. Studies conducted over the last two decades indicate that education programs reduce recidivism and translate into reductions in crime, savings to taxpayers, and long-term contributions to the safety and well-being of the communities to which formerly incarcerated people return (Prison Studies Project).

Classes Include

  • Creative writing and poetry
  • Confident parenting classes
  • Hands-on maker skills
  • Education on voting rights for former offenders
  • Job readiness training
  • Broomfield community arts projects
