Code Compliance

Code Compliance is a unit of the Specials Operations Division of the Broomfield Police Department. If you would like to ask us a question or file a complaint please use the link below. You may also refer to the district map (below) to determine which Code Compliance Officer works in your neighborhood and contact them directly.

Code Compliance is responsible for the enforcement of Broomfield municipal ordinances that are designed to protect the basic character of both residential and business areas. Officers with the unit investigate and address everything from weeds and rubbish to junk vehicles and zoning violations. Our goal is to achieve voluntary compliance through education and interaction with the community, and to maintain the quality of our neighborhoods.

Trash roll-offs and POD containers

Do you know trash roll-offs and POD containers require a permit if placed on a public street?  Be sure to get the permit in advance. The permit is free but the penalty for not obtaining a permit is not!

News and updates

Did you know that it is unlawful to blow, pile, or otherwise place your fallen leaves and other yard debris into the street, gutter, sidewalk, or other public right-of-way?

Keeping our community clean and green is a shared responsibility! Properly disposing of leaves and yard waste helps maintain the beauty of our neighborhoods and supports local environmental efforts. Dumping leaves and other yard waste in streets, gutters, or sidewalks is a violation of Broomfield Municipal Code 13-40-070. This practice obstructs public rights-of-way. We encourage all residents to use the designated disposal facilities to avoid penalties and help keep our community safe and clean.

Why Proper Disposal Matters

● Environmental Health: Prevents clogged storm drains, reduces flooding, and protects local waterways from nutrient runoff.

● Community Aesthetics: Keeps our streets and common areas tidy and appealing for everyone.

● Resource Recovery: Allows yard waste to be composted and repurposed, reducing landfill waste.

The following materials are accepted at our yard waste disposal facility:

● Leaves

● Grass clippings

● Small branches (branches more than 18 inches in diameter must be cut into 4 feet in length)

● Garden waste (non-food items)

● Perennial flower clippings

● Pumpkins

What is NOT accepted:

● No paper or plastic bags will be accepted - if you bring your debris in a bag, you will be required to take it out of the bag in order to deposit the debris in the bin.

● No wire, nails or metal of any kind is allowed due to potential damage to the tub grinder and risk to the operators.

● Household hazardous waste

Please ensure your yard waste is free from contaminants such as plastic bags, rocks, dirt, and construction debris.
