This exhibit dives into the vital role freight and passenger trains played in shaping Broomfield during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Positioned along key routes between Denver, Boulder and beyond, Broomfield’s depot saw trains carrying coal, grain, livestock and manufactured goods—essential to both local farms and growing Front Range cities. The railroad connected Broomfield’s residents to regional markets and urban centers, helping transform a rural outpost into a thriving community.

Broomfield 2026 Oral History Project

Do you have a story to tell? Throughout 2026, the Broomfield Historical Society and the Broomfield Arts & History team will be gathering personal and organizational stories connected to each ward in Broomfield. Please use this form to submit your information and a staff member will get back to you within 3-5 days to schedule a time to record your oral history. This project is part of the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission’s ‘Statewide Storytelling: A Portrait of Colorado at 150’ initiative.
