Request to bring your class to the library for a behind-the-scenes tour. To request a field trip to the library, please complete the Community Engagement Form and a librarian will be in touch about your request.

School Programs at CSU Spur

CSU Spur on the grounds of the National Western Center has rotating school programs that connect children to information and careers in food systems, veterinary science, and water conservation. Home to green roof research, incubator kitchens, equine therapy and more, your CSU Spur experience can be customized to your class objectives and interests. All programs are free, and bus reimbursement is available for qualifying school groups.

CSU Extension Garden Field Trips

Organize a trip for your K-12 students to one of CSU Extension's teaching gardens. Seasonal hands-on activities at the Teaching Vegetable Garden can include planting seeds, building trellises, or designing a drip irrigation system. The Xeriscape Demonstration Garden showcases water-wise plants with opportunities to learn about native plants and pollinators. Email csuextension@broomfield.org to get started.

Broomfield Library Classroom Visits

Broomfield Library staff are available for classroom visits to promote Summer Reading or share information about library resources at back to school nights. To request a classroom visit, please complete the Community Engagement Form and a librarian will be in touch about your request. 

Broomfield Depot Museum Field Trips

Customized for grades K - 8 

Explore the history of Broomfield at the Depot Museum and Crawford Honey House. With content covering the development of the community, transportation in the 19th and 20th centuries, daily life at the railroad Depot, and agriculture and commerce, this field trip is an immersive, context-rich exploration of the history of Broomfield. Each field trip experience features a tour of the Honey House and Depot as well as an interactive activity.

Lunch or snacks can be eaten onsite outdoors near the Depot. Allow at least 60 minutes for the experience, although the experience can be customized to last 2.5 hours. Can accommodate up to 60 students per experience. 9am-2pm most Mondays - Fridays. For more information about the Broomfield Depot Museum visit BroomfieldDepotMuseum.org. 

Veterans Museum Education Field Trips

Best for grades 3 - 12

Explore the Veterans Museum’s extensive exhibits. Spanning Colorado’s involvement in major US military conflicts from the Civil War through the War in Afghanistan, the Museum showcases veterans stories and Broomfield connections throughout its artifact-rich exhibits. Go deeper in the exhibits on a tour led by a trained volunteer, or explore on your own with your students using the tailored student exhibit guide. 

Eat lunch or snacks at the nearby Girl Scout Shelter at Midway Park.

History Deluxe Itinerary Field Trips

Best for grades 3-8

Immerse your students in Broomfield’s history! Hit both of Broomfield’s museums in one day with a trip to the History Campus and Depot Museum as well as a stop at the Veterans Museum. 

Itinerary: 

9 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. , Broomfield History Campus tours and activities at the Depot Museum & Honey House

11 a.m. - 12 p.m., Lunch at the Zang Pavilion and travel to Veterans Museum

12 p.m. -1:30 p.m., Veterans Museum tour and activities 

UTE Knowledge History Kit presented by the Broomfield Depot Museum and History Colorado

Best for grades K-8

The Ute people are Colorado’s oldest continuous residents. They used their extensive knowledge of the landscape and environment to live in Colorado for generations, and they are still here today. 

In this program, students investigate how the Ute Indians have used science, technology, engineering and math to survive and thrive in the Rocky Mountains. Students will test materials in order to understand how Ute people solved problems in the past and the present. The program meets Colorado history, math and science standards. 

This resource is best for preschool through fifth grade. The program length is approximately 60 minutes . This program can be led by City and County of Broomfield History staff or by educators. To book a program or to check out the take-out kit, email David Allison at dallison@broomfield.org.

WWII Footlocker (either facilitated or teacher-led)

Best for grades 4 through 11

This traveling trunk focuses on bringing the Veterans Museum to the classroom.   The footlocker contains more than 30 artifacts for students to examine, question and learn from.  Ranging from original uniforms to Home Front items, there is something for every student to examine and learn from. The trunk comes with a teacher's guide to make it easier to guide student's interests, and sample questions the student can follow to learn more about the war, about Colorado's role and about life in the 1940s. You can lead the lessons on your own or you  could request a Museum volunteer to come to the school to facilitate the footlocker for you! The length of the facilitated experience is 45 - 90 minutes.

Veterans Presentations (facilitated)

Best for grades 6 through 12

The Veterans Museum is a volunteer-run Museum. Many of these individuals are veterans, and are delighted to share their stories and experiences with students. Most presenters will bring a PowerPoint slide show with images from their time in the service. Veteran volunteer presenters have experiences that span conflicts ranging from the Cold War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and interwar periods. Timing can vary based on number of students/classes and availability of veteran volunteers.
