1. If I missed my court date or I want to appear early for a court appearance, when should I appear?

You may appear as an add-on on the following Wednesday docket at 1:30 pm. If you have further questions, please contact the clerk's office.  

2. What are the types of payments accepted for payment of fines?

The Municipal Court will accept cash, checks, money order, certified funds, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Checks should be made payable to the Broomfield Municipal Court.

There is a payment drop box located in front of the court building. Please do not put cash in the payment drop box.

You may also utilize the online payment future that can be located on the homepage.

4. What types of matters are handled at the various Court levels?

Municipal Court

• Traffic matters
• Ordinance violations, including animal and code violations

County Court

• Misdemeanors and petty offenses (including DUI’s)
• Bail determinations
• Preliminary hearings for felony cases
• Civil cases under $25,000
• Restraining orders/protection orders
• Some traffic offenses
• Domestic violence cases
• Small claims court cases under $7,500

District Court

• Civil cases over $25,000
• Felony criminal matters
• Domestic relations - dissolution of marriage, child custody, child support, etc

• Matters affecting boundaries or title to real property

5. What is an arraignment?

An arraignment is a first appearance in court where defendants are advised of their rights and charges.

6. What if I plead not guilty?

Not Guilty pleas will not be entered based on a pleading. We require a pretrial conference before accepting a Not Guilty plea entered on the record. This ensures that cases get tried within the 91-day speedy trial limit, and saves our trial dates for cases that cannot be resolved without a trial.
