Sadly, on February 1, retired Broomfield Chief of Police Tom Deland passed away unexpectedly. A funeral Mass for Chief Deland will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 11 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church located at 900 W. Midway Blvd. in Broomfield.

Parking at the church will be limited. Overflow parking will be available for community members who are planning to attend at 6 Garden Center.

The City and County of Broomfield will have two shuttle buses available to drive attendees from the parking lot at 6 Garden Center to the church starting at 1 p.m, and then back to the parking lot following the service. The funeral service is set to begin promptly at 2 p.m., so please allow enough time for parking and transportation. Masks are required on the buses per a federal regulation on public transportation.

A private procession from the church to the Chateaux at Fox Meadows will follow the funeral service. The celebration of life event at the Chateaux is open to the public, beginning right after the Mass.

Be advised that east-bound Midway Boulevard will be closed from Kohl Street to West 3rd Avenue Drive from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

There will be increased police presence in and around Nativity Church and School before, during, and after the funeral service. Please know this is standard protocol for a high-profile police event. There is no danger to the community.

The City and County of Broomfield, along with the Police Department, would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding during this event.
