[ARCHIVED] City and County-Wide: Masks Required Indoors for Everyone Age 2+ Starting Friday, Jan. 7

To limit transmission of the virus and reduce further strain on the hospital system, face masks will now be required indoors city and county-wide for everyone age 2 and older, starting Friday, Jan. 7 through Feb. 3.

In response to the Marshall Fire taking Avista Hospital offline, and dramatic increases in cases of omicron in Broomfield, data shows Broomfield must take action to protect the health and safety of our community.

To limit transmission of the virus and reduce further strain on the hospital system, face masks will now be required indoors city and county-wide for everyone age 2 and older, starting Friday, Jan. 7 through Feb. 3.

Are there more specific data points driving this decision?

  • Since omicron’s detection in Colorado, Broomfield's 7 day cumulative incidence has increased from 221 cases per 100,000 on Dec. 2 to 835.2 cases per 100,000 on Jan. 4. This is 2.5 times the peak case incidence when delta was the dominant variant circulating in our community (327.6 on Nov 17, 2021). This, in conjunction with the temporary closure of Avista Hospital due to the Marshall Fire, is concerning for hospital capacity. The metro region’s ICU bed capacity currently is less than 4%, with 62% of facilities reporting staff shortages.

How will this Broomfield-wide mask requirement be enforced?

  • While Broomfield residents have stepped up throughout the pandemic to practice protective measures and comply with public health recommendations and orders, you may report repeated violations by email at publichealth@broomfield.org

Are there any exemptions?

During this incredibly challenging time for our community, it’s critical that we once again mask up to keep each other safe. Please wear your mask in indoor public spaces, get the booster, and continue to encourage friends and family to get fully vaccinated.
