Today is a very special day for Broomfield. When US 36 opened as a toll road in the 50s, a stray dog who became known as "Shep" assumed the role of honorary toll booth greeter for travelers and Broomfield residents. Shep became a vivid part of Broomfield's history. Decades later, his memory is honored by naming the new Broomfield Midway Bridge "Shep's Crossing". Broomfield residents can now travel across the train tracks with ease and remember Broomfield's unofficial 4-legged mascot.
