On October 22, 2019, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) will be onsite at the Davis 43-6 plugged and abandoned well to begin repairs to this well, which is estimated to take two weeks. The location of the well is shown here. The well is being remediated due to elevated soil gas measurements in the immediate vicinity of the well. This work is the responsibility of, and under the direction of, COGCC’s Orphaned Well Program staff.
A portion of Graham Peak Way, from the trail crossing down to Middle Peak Way will be closed to traffic for the duration of this work, as shown on this MAP. Spanish Peak Way and the portion of Graham Peak Way north of the trail will only be open to local traffic. Temporary "no-parking" signs will be placed on Lowell Blvd. between Prebble Creek and Anthem Ranch Road.
The updates and notifications have been sent out on all social media channels, B-in-the-Loop, and on the web site. Additionally, HOAs and schools have also been notified, and will continue to be. An SRO will be at Thunder Vista tomorrow morning and periodically throughout the day to address any concerns of parents, staff, or children. School security is aware of the work and prepared to assist with any issues that arise.
The North Metro Fire and Rescue District, Broomfield’s Oil and Gas Inspectors, in addition to the other staff, will be onsite at the Davis 43-6 plugged and abandoned well site as the project proceeds. Staff will be sending daily updates throughout the process.
The next steps being conducted by COGCC's Orphaned Well Program, beginning tomorrow morning of Oct. 22, 2019, include:
Prior to the start of excavation, Graham Peak Way will be barricaded off at the trail on the north end and at Middle Peak Drive on the south end.
COGCC’s excavation activities include cutting a hole in the street, exposing the well pipe and other infrastructure, and then sliding a pipe around the casing and cement between the casing and pipe.
It is anticipated that this work will take approximately two weeks from the time that the pipe is exposed.
Concurrently, the COGCC will be conducting further characterization of the extent of subsurface contamination and determining any necessary remediation requirements. A time frame for remediation will be set one COGCC further assess the contamination.
