Mental Health Awareness Month
Broomfield has a variety of safe spaces, programs for all ages, and community supports to uplift each other and promote positive mental health. Whether it’s a walk in the hundreds of miles of open space and trails, crafting with community at the Library or joining a class or gathering at the Community Center, there is something you can do every day in Broomfield to boost your mental wellbeing in the short and long term.

There are a variety of mental health services available to Broomfielders.
Crisis Services, Clinical Services, and Additional Supports
- Dial 9-8-8: The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline connects you with a crisis center in the Lifeline network closest to your location. Your call will be answered by a trained crisis worker who will listen empathetically and without judgment. Your call is confidential and free.

Community Initiated Care
- Have you ever had a friend or neighbor go through a mental or behavioral health crisis and you weren’t sure how to respond? Through training, each of us can feel empowered to recognize behavioral health issues in a friend, a neighbor, or a family member and take helpful action in the moment. Sign up for these free trainings as an individual or as an organization at Broomfield.org/CIC.
Broomfield Co-Responders (BCORE)
- The Broomfield Police Department implemented Broomfield’s Co-Responder program, BCORE, in 2018. BCORE is designed to provide people in crisis with appropriate mental health services. When someone calls the police, an officer does an assessment to determine if a clinician should respond to the call as well. The BCORE program answers around 80 calls per month to support the mental wellbeing of residents. Learn more about BCORE.
May 5: Mental Health Support for Younger Children
- Join partner organization Mental Health Partners for an interactive, virtual, event that helps shine light on kids' mental health. Parents, caregivers, educators and professionals who work with children between the ages of 0–10 years are welcome. Find more Mental Health Awareness Month offerings from MHP here.
May 16: Outdoor Story Time & Bus Rides
- Enjoy stories and play in front of the library as small groups take a short ride on the Broomfield FlexRide around the park and city offices while singing some family favorite songs in English and Spanish.
May 19: Calming Stone Mindfulness Activity
- Join the Broomfield Library and partner organization Mental Health Partners for a free mindfulness activity for kids and teens. Find more Mental Health Awareness Month offerings from MHP here.
- Explore activities all about growing food and getting your hands dirty! Watch your garden grow throughout the season at the Teaching Vegetable Garden and get ideas you can take home for more family fun.
May 1 - May 31: Reasons 2 Live at The Library
- A Reason to Live, a Broomfield-based, youth-initiated suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, is very excited to announce a new interactive exhibit for Mental Health Awareness Month in May. In partnership with the Broomfield Library and Broomfield Youth For Youth, this interactive exhibit asks members of our local community for their “reasons to live”, or reasons to keep going, or a thing to look forward to. The goal is to uplift our community’s collective mental health, and make a positive impact on anyone who visits the Library. Find the exhibit on the window in the Library Lobby, contribute your own reason, and share the project with others!
May 6 : Morp! A.K.A. Prom Spelled Backwards!
- Get ready to party after hours at the Broomfield Library for this unique Prom alternative! You'll have the library all to yourself as you enjoy delicious food, great music and an unforgettable prom experience. Gather your friends, dance your heart out, have snacks, play games and show us your moves. Students in grades 9–12 are welcome to attend this free event.
- This time of year can be stressful, so taking care of your emotional, mental and physical well-being is especially important! The Broomfield Library Teen Ambassador Board (TAB) and Youth for Youth (Y4Y) invite anyone ages 11–18 to enjoy a FREE evening of de-stressing, food, fun and relaxation.
May 9: Restorative Yoga and Healing Sound Journey
- Rejuvenate your mind and body through the healing tones of crystal and Himalayan singing bowls, melodic chimes and other instruments during this restorative yoga class designed to cultivate deep relaxation and calm the nervous system. Costs associated.
- Get connected with the Library's writing group for adults! Meet with fellow writers to share and discuss your work.

- Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and how our experience of life is unfolding in our body, hearts and mind. Mindfulness meditation is a simple activity in which we bring curiosity, warmth and kindness to our experience with the intention of cultivating greater peace and well being. In this workshop, you will learn about the attitudes that support mindfulness and the foundational practice of sitting and walking meditation. Registration required at B-REx.com.

- Connecting with nature and other nature lovers is a great way to boost your mood! Join the Broomfield Open Space Foundation and Broomfield Open Space and Trails staff on May 6 to plant native grasses and shrubs at Broomfield County Commons! Register at broomfield.volunteerhub.com.
June 3: Broomfield Trail Adventure and Broomfield 100 Launch
- Did you know that 77% of respondents to the Open Space and Trails survey said that they use the trail system to increase their mental wellbeing at least once a month? Whether you need a relaxing walk through nature or want to get your sweat on to decompress after a long day, there is a trail for you. The Broomfield Trail Adventure is coming up on June 3 this event also serves as the launch to the Broomfield 100. Plan your visit to each trail, find areas of interest along the way and add your name to the community guestbook to share your trail adventures!
- Housing is linked to mental health. Broomfield partners closely with a number of community and non-profit organizations that provide housing services and assistance. Additionally, the Broomfield Housing Division works to allocate federal dollars to assist low-income individuals and families.
- When you’re struggling to pay for your needs, everything else is put on hold. Learn more about food assistance, medical coverage, child care assistance and more.
