End of Public Health Emergency

Throughout the pandemic, COVID-19 services including testing, vaccination, and treatment were largely free and easily accessible. Depending on your health insurance coverage, these services may have a cost associated with them and some of your preferred locations may no longer offer services once the Public Health Emergency ends. Contact your health insurance provider and preferred location for more information. If you are currently uninsured, you are highly encouraged to sign up for Medicaid if you are income eligible, or sign up for Connect for Health Colorado to maintain health insurance.

*Please note that COVID-19 vaccines may still be free for you until late summer. Contact your preferred vaccine clinic to confirm. BPHE’s Immunization Clinic will be offering free COVID-19 vaccinations for everyone age 6 months and older until late summer.

Access

Access to COVID-19 services may be decreasing, depending on your insurer and your preferred provider. Contact your insurer and preferred provider for specific information. Here is general information about access to COVID-19 services:

• CDPHE’s mobile vaccination bus will be decommissioned when the Public Health Emergency ends.
• USPS will no longer offer free COVID-19 tests delivered to your home.
• Most COVID-19 testing will be done at the traditional health care system, or with at-home tests for a cost.
• Test-to-treat locations will continue to offer COVID-19 testing and treatment, however the cost for these services will no longer be covered by federal funds. Contact your health insurance provider or test-to-treat location for information about out-of-pocket costs.

BPHE has continued to protect and promote the health of Broomfield residents throughout the pandemic. The end of the Public Health Emergency will bring operational changes that residents should be aware of. 

BPHE will continue to:

• Offer free COVID-19 vaccines until late summer. Residents are encouraged to get themselves and their families up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccines while it is free and easily accessible.
• Provide epidemiological and infection control support, guidance and education for COVID-19.  
• Provide free at home COVID-19 test kits to community partners serving vulnerable and uninsured populations.

BPHE will no longer:

• Notify the public about changes in Broomfield’s level on the CDC’s Community Levels. Residents are encouraged to check the levels weekly and make informed decisions about their health.
• House Broomfield-specific COVID-19 data on our website. Residents are encouraged to view state level data at CDPHE COVID-19 dashboard (this one has some county level information including deaths and cases) and the CDPHE Dashboard for Viral Respiratory Diseases (state level data only).
• Offer Pfizer-brand or Novavax-brand COVID-19 vaccines. The clinic will only offer Moderna-brand COVID-19 vaccines for all ages.
• Host CDPHE’s mobile vaccination bus, as CDPHE’s funding for the bus is ending.
• Offer free at-home test kits at the Library. Stay up-to-date on the Library's supply here.
• House all of the COVID-19 webpages that currently exist on the website. Starting May 19, BPHE’s COVID-19 webpages will be condensed and some pages will be unpublished. Starting September 1, remaining pages will be moved to the Vaccine-Preventable Diseases page at Broomfield.org/3779/Vaccine-Preventable-Diseases.

The emergency declarations made it easier for people to get health insurance coverage and keep their coverage throughout the pandemic. People that want to keep their Medicaid or CHP+ coverage must complete, sign, and return their renewal packet to keep their health coverage if they still qualify. If you are a Health First Colorado or CHP+ member, please make sure your contact information is up to date in PEAK so your renewal packet can get to you. If you do not have a PEAK account, you can create one at CO.gov/PEAK. You can also contact Broomfield Human Services to make sure your address and other contact information is up to date.
