Bruce Leslie

About Bruce 

Bruce is a Viet Nam Era Navy veteran, who then spent his career as a President/Chancellor of large, urban, complex political community college districts. Bruce and Cheryl have been married 52 years, have three children and eight grandchildren and live in Anthem Ranch.  Bruce was elected to represent Ward 4 in November 2021.

Professional Background

During his 40-year career, Bruce served as a President of Onondaga Community College, Chancellor of the Connecticut Community College System, Chancellor of the Houston Community College District and Chancellor of the Alamo Colleges District. Bruce retired at the end of 2018 having led the Alamo Colleges to become recognized as the best community district in the nation. He teaches doctoral students for Fielding Graduate University and Kansas State University and provides consulting services for the American Association for Community College Trustees in strategic planning, leadership and organizational development.  Throughout his career, Bruce has served on numerous local, national and international civic, business and association boards, often in leadership positions. Bruce currently serves as a Treasurer of the Rocky Mountain Performance Excellence Board, the region's Malcolm Baldrige Quality Program.


Philosophy of Local Government

Bruce believes that local government is not about political affiliation, but rather neighbor helping neighbor. In alignment with their campaign slogan "Broomfield Together", Bruce's responsibility is to collaborate with the various Broomfield neighborhoods, especially those in Ward 4, building partnerships with stakeholders around specific issues and with his colleagues on City Council and Broomfield City & County staff, to solve problems, meet the needs of their neighbors and continue to make Broomfield the best place in the country to live, raise families, work and maintain the quality of life that brought us to Broomfield in the first place.




Political/Community Experience

Bruce's career as a public college leader made him accountable to elected officials at all levels of government. His boards consisted of appointed or elected trustees, his financial accountability was to either local city councils, county executives, governors, state legislatures and federal legislators and departments. Bruce has directed his career to building alliances and partnerships among community organizations in order to enhance their effectiveness.

  • Broomfield Building Corporation Board of Directors
  • Broomfield Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
  • Counties & Commissioners Acting Together (CCAT)



Hobbies & Interests

Bruce and Cheryl are active with several Anthem Ranch organizations. Cheryl knits and is a gourmet cook. As an artist, she helps organizations develop logos, including their campaign logo, and is an outstanding organizer. Bruce and Cheryl love fly fishing, while Bruce studies music and photography and loves pickleball, skiing and hiking.
