What to Watch For

  • How can we help you? The Children's Library is open, but we understand some families may not be able to come into the library. We are still here for you! Call the Children's Desk at 720.887.2315.
  • Children's Patio is open! Our children's patio is open with limited capacity. Come enjoy some outdoor play.
  • Summer Library Adventures - This all-ages summer learning program will run June 1 - July 31. Register for the summer reading challenge on broomfield.beanstack.org starting May 24 and plan to attend one of our outdoor programs! More information below.

Masks are required for ages 4 and up in the library and for all library programs (outdoors and indoors).  Programs are added as they become available. Please check the Children’s Library website and B-REx.com for updates. Outdoor programs are offered weather permitting. Programs may be canceled if they do not meet minimum attendance.

Story Times

  • Online Story Times - Through May 31. Enjoy on your own schedule. New story times are posted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (Fridays are Cuentacuentos in Spanish.) Visit the city activities page for new Story Times or join a watch party on Facebook. View saved story time videos at any time.
  • Cuentacuentos en español - Hasta 31 de mayo. En línea a Broomfield Library Facebook. Un vídeo nuevo cada viernes. 
  • Story Line - Call our Story Line at 720.887.2317 to hear a recorded story. New stories each week!
  • Baby Outdoor Storytime - Thursdays, June 10 - July 22, 9:30 - 10 a.m. Ages 0-24 with an adult. No registration required. Join the Children's Library outside for some fun with stories and rhymes for babies. This program meets on the lawn to the northwest of the library building. Families will sit or stand in physically distanced spaces for the program. Weather permitting. 
  • Outdoor Storytime - Tuesdays, June 8 - July 20, 9:30 - 10 a.m. Ages 2-5 with an adult. No registration required. Storytime is outside this summer! This program meets at the library amphitheater next to the pond. Build early literacy skills while developing a love of reading. Families will sit or stand in physically distanced spaces for the program. Weather permitting. 

Special Programs

  • Family Playdate: Arcimboldo Portraiture and Animation with CU Boulder - Monday, May 10, online 4-5 p.m. All ages. Registration required. Family activities are key to building connections! Join inventHQ and CU Boulder to create a self-portrait entirely made out of objects, and then animate it! There is no kit this month, but a list of things to gather from your home will be delivered along with the Google Meet link in the program reminder email the Friday before the program.
  • Summer Library Adventures: Tails & Tales - June 1-July 31. All ages. All ages are invited to participate in this year's Summer Library Adventures reading challenge! Go to broomfield.beanstack.org to register beginning May 24 and start logging activities on June 1! Everyone who completes the challenge will be entered into a grand prize drawing, and anyone ages newborn-18 who finishes the challenge can pick up a completion prize at the Library beginning June 7, while supplies last. Prizes must be picked up by July 31. The Library looks forward to enjoying this summer with you!
  • Summer Library Adventures Celebration - Saturday, June 5, 9 - 11:45 a.m. (30-minute timeslots). Ages 2+. Registration required. Celebrate Broomfield's Summer Library Adventures with an outdoor event for the entire family! Participants will get hands-on with building a hummingbird feeder or mini table for squirrels to perform their acrobatics (while supplies last—there are an equal number of each type of activity). Activities are recommended for ages 2+. Register to book a table today!
  • Wonderful Wednesdays - Wednesdays, June 9, June 23, July 7, and July 21, 2 - 2:45 p.m. Ages 5+ with family. No registration required, but space may be limited. Enjoy special outdoor performances for families every other Wednesday afternoon in June and July! This program meets in Community Park behind the library. Families will sit or stand in physically distanced spaces in the grass for the program. Bring a blanket, water, & sunscreen. Weather permitting. Seating will begin at 1:15 p.m. Check in with a staff member outside the Library & Auditorium to be seated. 
    • June 9, "Wag That Tale with Border Collies." Denise Gard and her famous Border Collies, Joey and Kira, create a tale that contains tails. Join them for a program that is so action-packed and full of dog tricks, you’ll wish you had a tail too!
    • June 23: "Get Outdoors: A Musical/Theatrical Exploration of Science and Nature" with Jeff & Paige! Join Jeff & Paige as they perform fun science-based songs and kid-delighting skits complete with costumes and loads of audience interaction.
    • July 7: "Mr. Bones and Friends." Life-size skeleton dinosaur puppets will be presented in a show and tell atmosphere by their designer/puppeteer Tim Seeber.  Come learn about your favorite dinosaurs and see them come to life!
    • July 21: "Ann Lincoln's Marvelous, Amazing and Magical Animals." Magic, juggling & comedy with real and pretend pets. A show about some of Ann's own unique "fantastic beasts" and how she found out about them. Ann will pull out all the stops in this performance that highlights stories about animals (both real and imaginary), kindness and caring for pets, and how to learn more about earth's creatures by using resources at the library.
  • High-Sensory Messy Mud Play - Saturday, June 26, 10 - 11 a.m. Ages 3-5 with adult. Registration required. This outdoor, play-based activity welcomes families with preschool children with autism, sensory processing disorder, and/or with strong desires for sensory input for a flexible, fun experience. Families are encouraged to dress appropriately for messy play - kids will explore dirt, mud, water, soap, and paint! A professional occupational therapist will be available to answer caregiver questions about children's development and learning. Program schedule and visual schedule will be available several weeks in advance of program by contacting the Children's Library.

Ongoing Programs

  • Children's Patio - Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Sunday 1 - 4:30 p.m. (Weather permitting.) Come enjoy some outdoor play together! The patio play area in Children's is limited to 15 people at a time. Masks and distancing still apply in this space, and no food. There is a picnic table outside the front of the library for enjoying a picnic.
  • Take-and-Make Kits - Through May 15. Ages 2-10. Take-and-make kits for children ages 2-10 are available for pick up at the Library. Enjoy tech-free activities to build early literacy and STEAM skills. Kits for toddlers and kids are available at the Children's Library desk and curbside pick-up. Individual kits are available while supplies last with new kits added weekly.
  • Baby Welcome Bags - Ages 0-12 months. Are you a Colorado resident who has welcomed a new baby into the family? Congratulations! The Library wants to help give your little one the best start in life. Stop by the Children's Library Desk and ask about our Baby Welcome Bags for babies up to 12 months old that contain some special gifts for your little one and great resources for caregivers. Supplies are limited. Funded by the Broomfield Library Friends Foundation.
  • Online Resources - This is a great time to take advantage of our digital resources! Click on the icons below for books, movies, animated stories and more available through the library website! Some items may require your library card to sign in.

Family Support

  • Internet Hotspots for Check-Out - Do you have unreliable internet or need internet access when the library is closed? Check out a mobile hotspot from the Broomfield Library. They are available to Broomfield residents ages 18 and older and can be checked out for three weeks. Come into the Library and ask at the Circulation desk to check one out. Visit the Library catalog for more information.
