After a rigorous cleanup and closure of the site, Rocky Flats was de-listed from the Superfund National Priorities List for environmental cleanup in 2007. As described in DOE's Rocky Flats Fact Sheet, all of the buildings have been demolished and the site is being restored and re-vegetated to its natural state. A timeline of key events are documented in the Stewardship Council's Rocky Flats History. Kaiser-Hill announced that physical closure of the site was complete October 13, 2005. Regulatory closure documents, including the Rocky Flats Legacy Management Agreement (RFLMA) were filed and approved in 2007. The RFMLA contains post-closure maps of the site showing the remaining infrastructure, groundwater plumes, and water monitoring locations. The Rocky Flats buffer zone has been turned over to the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service to manage as a wildlife refuge. After extensive stakeholder participation, the Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) for the refuge was completed in April 2005. View a summary of the report. The complete CCP and more information about the Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge is available on the U. S. Fish and Wildlife website. | After Closure |
