2014 Teen Summer Reading Program


Click here to register online, and then pick up your reading log at the Teen Zone desk, starting June 1st, to begin your summer reading.

Program runs from June 1 through July 31. Teens entering grades 6-12 may participate. Registration begins June 1 and ends July 19. The last day to pick up prizes for completing levels is July 31.
 

Registration is required for all teen programs, unless otherwise noted.  To register, please call 720-887-2360 or stop by the Teen Zone Desk.  

These programs are for teens going into grades 6-12, unless otherwise noted. Teen programs are held in the Eisenhower Room or the Discovery Lab (please see program details for location). Programs are free of charge.

Manga Art Jam
1st Sundays, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Like comics and manga? Tried drawing those big-eyed characters, but don't know where to start? Want your superhero to look ready to save the day? Artist Gareth Kensak leads this informal drawing club. He'll give you tips to capture the essence of your characters. Bring your sketchpads for sharing and drawing.



Teen Advisory Board
1st and 3rd Mondays, 4-5 p.m.

Teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to join TAB and help plan library programs, submit stories and art for The 411: Teen Zone Newsletter, and make recommendations for teen books, music, and videos. If you are interested in joining TAB please stop by the Teen Zone to fill out an application.



Boost Your Brain
Every Tuesday, 5-7 p.m.

Star Wars Combat
Saturday, June 7, 10 am-1 pm

Prepare for battle!  Are you a Jedi or a Sith?  Meet and train with your favorite Star Wars characters and choose which side you are going to join.  *Program meets outside.

Tuesday June 10 & Thursday June 12, 2-4 pm, in the Discovery Lab

Challenge your movies making skills with special effects and stop motion animation iPad apps.  Film yourself or friends or create characters using clay.  *No registration required, open to ages 9-18


Day with Dad - Bike Broomfield
Saturday, June 14, 1-3 pm

Be bike savvy with Boulder Community Cycles.  You'll learn about gears, brakes, tires, and tools and prepare tasty snacks for your next ride!  *Teens must sign up and attend with an adult. Program meets outside.


Pizza & Prose: Donna Cooner
Sunday, June 15, 2:30-4:30 pm

Donna will share how she turned the details of her personal life into her debut novel, SKINNY.  She'd love to get you writing, too.  So come, and as always, enjoy delicious pizza!

Tuesday June 17 & Thursday June 19, 2-4 pm in the Discovery Lab

A Bike Depot expert will show you how to fix a flat, tune your bike, and adjust your brakes and gears.  Bring your bike for the Q&A if you have questions.  *Open to ages 9-18.  Program meets outside.

Make a solar system that you can carry in your pocket!  Use cookies to identify phases of the moon.  *No registration required, open to ages 9-18


Fly Me to the Moon
Saturday, June 28, 11 am-12:30 pm

Experience the Apollo 11 Space Center's press room on the day we landed on the moon.  We'll reenact the moon landing by using 3-D modeling, NASA video, and hands-on activities.

Science of Chocolate Chip Cookies
Wednesday, July 2, 10 am-noon and 2-4 pm

Have you ever wondered how to make the perfect chocolate chip cookie?  Well, now you can learn!  Join us as we use science to make delicious cookies.

Calling all Whovians!  Come show your love for all things Dr. Who by playing trivia games, making sonic screwdrivers, playing Weeping Angels Tag, and more!

The Living History of Marie Curie
Wednesday, July 16, 7-8:30 pm

This one woman drama exposes the struggles and triumphs of Madame Marie Curie.  The program includes and in-character monologue and Q&A.  *This program is open to ages 9-adult

   
Creative Movement & Theater Games
Thursday, July 17, 2-4 pm

Explore improvisation and connect to your creative expression. You'll play spontaneous theater games, do movement exercises, and dance to live music.  Laughing encouraged!


Circus Physics
Monday, July 21, 2-4 pm

Explore the fine art of silliness!  The Public Works Theater will be here to teach you about juggling, balancing and falls, and working with gravity.

Saturday, August 2, 2-3:30 pm

The CU Science Discovery scientists bring thermal cameras, night vision systems, and lasers to the library!  Come see how electromagnetic waves play a role in our 21st century tools and technologies.  *Open to ages 9-14 only.


Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament
Thursday, August 7, 2-4 pm

Break out your cards!  It's Yu-Gi-Oh for the whole family! Players of all levels welcome.  Please bring your own deck. *This program is open to ages 9-18 only.
Movie Showings

 
* No registration required.
* No food or drinks.
* Doors open at 6:30 p.m.  Movies start at 7 p.m.
* Seating limited and available on a first come first served basis.
* Open to all ages.  Children under 13 must come with someone 13 or older.
* All movies will be shown in the Broomfield Auditorium located adjacent to the library.
